George Unsworth
Founder & CEOGeorge has spent 20 years building at the intersection of property and technology.
He founded his own asset and property management companies, E8 Group and FutureStudio, delivering some of the first shared, co-working and mixed-use models of occupation in London. Before going on to found Mortar as a specialist technology company serving people, places and property.
Leading a team of developers at Mortar George built scalable, multi-tenant digital solutions for landlords, the NHS, local government and major institutions. He is the lead designer of the government's digital inclusion toolkit and venue accreditation platform, and led the design and build of specialist property tools during and after the pandemic including Rent Flex, Rent Response and the Mayor of London's Tenancy Sustainment Tool. This work has led to him becoming recognised as one of the leading systems and service designers in the UK, regularly sitting as an invited speaker at All Party Parliamentary Groups and advising the corporate sector in cross disciplinary fields of technology, regulation and real estate.
During this time he has worked as a PropTech consultant with the PwC real estate team, Nationwide (through their Reimagining Rent programme) and for Local Government supporting the delivery of section 106 projects and the distribution of the Community Infrastructure Levy. He advises landlords on lease negotiation and execution, as well as all other property related contracts including licence, tenancy and membership creation and residential conveyancing.
As a software developer he has been leading his own multi-disciplinary team at Mortar in the production of the modular, multi-tenant software framework Hoop'd. Building trusted data environments procured through the G-Cloud and Proactis procurement platforms. Working with Cambridge University and the DAWN supercomputer team he developed alternative modelling techniques to combat class imbalances in service data. Whilst building the agentic framework for implementing AI into Mortar's existing software systems he developed the architecture that led to the founding of Harla.
All things have led to this moment, to strike out and build a team ready to work at the speed and urgency necessary to take advantage of the opportunity being presented by AI.
